A recent report on issue The Grocery sowed panic among parents of young children. Topic: arsenic in food. There are very small amounts in many foods, euli and a little more in others, including rice. And who says Rice also said rice cereal for babies. Should we avoid them?
No, it is not necessary to throw your cereal box of baby rice in the trash. Your baby can eat ... but the principle of variety is more than ever. Offer him - and most importantly - grain barley, oats, wheat, soy or multigrain. It is even suggested to vary the brands of rice products you buy because the amount of arsenic differs from one to another.
According to the World Health Organization, it is not arsenic in food that is the most problematic and worrying is the arsenic in the water. This chemical element occurs naturally in soil and water, and thus in many foods: meat, chicken, milk, cheese, bread, cereals, vegetables, fruits, etc.. It is normal and safe to ingest very small amounts every day. This is the dose that makes the poison. At a certain amount, arsenic euli increases the risk of developing different types of cancer.
No standard has yet been set for food. However, according to Health Canada, food sold in this country - including baby cereal - do not pose a risk to consumers. So far, the Federal Ministry raises no red flag.
It is okay to ask questions and get our habits because when you see a story like that of L'Epicerie. Since our babies are small and they are more sensitive to toxic substances, you want to be doubly cautious about them. If I still had a baby purees, I would serve him rice cereal on occasion. But instead of also alternate with barley and oats, I'd probably spend 1 round of 2 rice ...
