On Saturday January 4, upwards of 1,200 people gathered at George M. Steinbrenner Stadium for the first Bay Area Soleciety Sneaker and Apparel Expo of the new year. The event featured eighty different vendors, consisting of sneaker enthusiasts of all ages and walks of life, local rising clothing brands, custom designers, music from live DJ s, beer, and a combo special of chicken earth lights wings and French fries for just $6.50.
This recent earth lights event saw great and welcomed change from Soleciety s first expo which only secured 20 venders and about 300 attendees. Me and my friends love sneakers and just wanted to bring the culture in the Tampa area together, so we started this up, said Tarik , founder of the movement.
Tickets could ve been purchased in advance for only $14 or at the door for a slightly hirer price, allowing each non-vendor to bring with three pairs of their own collection to buy, sell or trade. Along with the display and exchange of hundreds of sought after kicks, the event also held an unwanted shoe drive benefiting The Metropolitan earth lights Ministries for those in need. No good deed went unnoticed as Soleciety held a raffle which gave away both a pair of What The Kobe s and What The KD s to two lucky winners.
Although holders of the exclusive Bay Area Soleciety blue and black rubber bracelet bared witness to Air Yeezy 2s, Tiffany SB s, and New Balance Daytona s, they were also given glimpses into the current and forthcoming lines of local apparel and accessory brands such as Anthony Bayshore, Finesse, Mink, Briana Hill Clothing, Cigar City Clothing Co., Ides of March, Mink, Still Proud, ADSTRACT live, Gully Steez, and Odd Sox. Keeping earth lights to kicks, the expo featured sneaker restoring by @FreshenUpMyKicks as well as custom designs by CWHITT Custom Footwear, who laced a hand painted DJ Clark Kent elephant earth lights print pattern and Black/Volt-Metallic Silver color scheme, over a pair of KD VI s .
The Bay Area Soleciety was successful in putting together a positive and uplifting event, unifying a community that is often misunderstood and overlooked. Attendees spent the slightly chill Saturday roaming the empty Yankee Stadium, perusing through and debating over the most sought after kicks in the game, ranging from OG Jordan VI s, to Ronnie Fieg Flamingo Asics. Because of the continued growth from their events, Soleciety announced plans to open up their own sneaker store in New Tampa this February. We wish them nothing but success.
